Hondo finally saw today courtesy of traditional Chinese medicine. Shane starts as a solid DivX film Hondo and is still not really live up to say or Searchers. There The Red River was not strong villain or character Duke really outside game. Bond does not do much. Only looked overweight and need a shave. It is true that Baker was Buffalo. Arness not fill the screen, no doubt left Gunsmoke. This was the first time the duke played half race? I do not remember where he had another Hondo Western film Apache blood. Interestingly, the character was left Louis Lamour guess that way. I will certainly see her again, but I was expecting more, Pilgrim. |
Someone in a previous comment that John Wayne said, "always wrong." I take great umbrage at that statement. He was always good and, often, sometimes beautiful and magnificent. El Hondo is a very different character of Ethan Edwards and Thomas Dunson. In this case, a young Wil Anderson or darker Quirt Evans. I like Hondo. Not a great movie: Hondo like Red River or browsers, but to explore the existence of a single woman who lives in the back of beyond. It also explores how a semi-domesticated man becomes a surrogate parent and a good husband, Ethan Edwards, something that never returned. Geraldine Page shines as a new currency in this, his first film. She won an Academy Award nomination for his role in Hondo, and she deserved it. Hondo is a man who is hardened by experience, but still capable of understanding, compassion and love. He also works hard. It's fun to see John Wayne in the mouth with nails, shoeing a horse! |
This Hondo Western film was more faithful to the book, everything I have ever seen. It is based on a Louis L'amour's Western principles of the novel and the first to be made into a film. Apart from using Vittorio war paint all the time, the only part that is not really true to the book was the final battle where the battle Indian stereotypes in Hollywood was replaced by the way they really fought Apaches. Louis L'Amour is the most successful novelist in the history of Western Europe, having sold more than a quarter of a million books before his death in 1988. When reading the book, Hondo, is often suspected of having been written with John Wayne as Hondo Lane account. I can picture Glenn Ford as Hondo, as planned. Much of the dialogue was taken directly from the book, although much has been omitted, and each character made the book important to the film. The only major negatives were: 1) the fact that history is condensed into 83 minutes instead of 100 to 120 minutes, which would have allowed the development of some of the characters, and 2) the apparent absence of a director responsible. Think how much better it would have been if he had directed John Ford. In fact, both my complaints probably come down to the same. |
This 1953 starring John Wayne as (Hono Lane), "She wore a Yebbon,'49, is really a great classic on how Native Americans and early settlers and various Indian tribes were struggling to live together, and also tried to destroy each other. There is a huge battle scenes with the Indians in circles around the wagons first Hono Lane and uphill battle, using skills to protect the men and women. There is romance between Hono and Geraldine Page (Angie Lowe), "The Three Sisters",'66, admits that she is not an attractive woman and a child who grows like Hono while showing how to fish and hunt. Ward Bond (Buffalo Baker), "Johnny Guitar", 54, gives a great supporting role as Hondo's old friend. James Arness (Lennie), "They", 54 makes a brief appearance and it seems that some do not like killing Hondo made in the past. There is a sweet dog in the picture that you will follow each Hondo, demonstrating the kind of person is really Hondo in life. Very image produced a good and a great classic Wayne. |
I liked it. I had never seen so I have the DVD yesterday, and had a few surprises. One was that even an hour and a half. Usually, these things Duke is expected to be a couple of hours. Two - is very similar to "Shane," which came out the same year. Spanish short film, cast small, family plotting - Did it work? Yes he did. I enjoyed the unconventional casting of the page, not a glamor queen and the film: Hondo is better for him. Wayne was typical in his game to the most, with some very good dialogue thrown in. I always enjoy watching the "Ford Stock Company" by Ward Bond, Leo Gordon, Paul Fix, Acosta, etc. Arness included. They were good together and helps the film. Oddly sympathetic portrayal of the Apaches, especially Michael Pate. That was good, riding the coat tails of "Cochise" a few years before I am sure, but so what? Works. Nicely shot, not too much free time in 3-D style of John Ford climax W / Indians around the wagons, etc., in the end, the same trick great job, so you know the drill. I do not see how you can go wrong W / if you like westerns Wayne usual brand, this is a cut above fact. Go **** *** |
