A very watchable film, and one that was expected to have seen the trailer several times. All this is excellent, from the ridiculous to the efforts of the effete upper class to distance itself from the mediocrity, the lower class scum trying to keep their heads above the dirt, the Plunkett & Macleane film captures the spirit of the 18th century brilliantly. Maclean Jonny Lee Miller plays well, although not exactly the length of it, and Robert Carlyle seems a little lost in Plunkett, Miller fellow Highwayman. The real star of the show was undoubtedly Ken Stott, who plays Mr. Chance (a kind of 1740's police chief), with a joy that was badly out of the rest of the cast. A great movie, and anyone with the color and style of Peter Greenaway's films will love the look of it, although the thinness of the plot is revealed prior to the 2 hours are. Well worth seeing. |
I am surprised that I have a real affection for one in that I am not a lover of the action and adventure. But, hey ... It's pretty hard to go wrong with a Plunkett & Macleane film by Robert Carlyle. I have read several comments temperate or poor in this film, pulling it apart from the mistakes of the period of development of the plot or unlikely, but nobody seems to mention the most intriguing character who tells how a hard transition, below -in-his-luck scoundrel (Carlyle) is transformed into a noble, selfless and how the very hero-boy, cowardly vagrant (Miller) develops a taste for the life of a road when the man " is the feeling of it. " Full of piles of bad boy humor, lavish scenes (including the use of "fireworks" by former apothacary Plunkett) and a musical score ecclectic charm, Plunkett and Macleane is a fast-paced and very enjoyable piece of cinema. It is certainly worth seeing his time CLIMAX SCENE FOR ONLY! Shoot 'em up, boys! |
Ah, how to see a vision of 18th century England with mud, smallpox and gibbets ... and accompanied by a delicious soundtrack tech startup. This is the story of the oppressed bandolero Plunkett (Robert Carlisle) and Knight-fallen on hard times-Captain-Macleane (Jonny Lee Miller), and how they meet and stolen aristo pigs. Plunkett is a tough nut, but MaCleane is too polite for that, and thus becomes the "gentleman bandit. 'He falls in love with Lady Rebecca (Liv Tyler), (to be honest that is the only weak part of the whole affair ) and want to impress her. The costumes are fantastic. Large, colorful, historically innacurate togs beautiful. Alan Cummings thread receives all the best and the best lines as Lord Rochester, a 18th century sport not eyebrow piercing. The glorious music turns swooping low blows and tech-laden vocals, which do not jar as you think you should do in a historical film. The script is dotted with fast-moving and today colloquial; Merchant Ivory, this is not. There are parts hilarious, disgusting parts, sitting on the edge of your seat, and nibble their nails, but everything chugs along and is very entertaining at all. It is encouraging in-the-movie things. Lose. |
I had to look twice before I could make my opinion about it. The first view - and 21st century music disc more authentic dialogue reasonably old world looking visuals - comes as a surprise, that forces you to leave everything that you were expecting. Once you've got an open mind in calling the Plunkett & Macleane Action film is a riot: the action of the bucketload and alternately funny and strange as Plunkett Macleane movement and association of the changes in a cautious "marriage of convenience 'for true friendship . The performance is excellent in all, Liv Tyler and Rebecca is beautiful, funny and interesting in itself. One of my very few disappointments was that the last ten or fifteen minutes seemed to be rushed, giving me a slight feeling of, "Huh? Are you finished? "When the titles rolled. Overall, excellent. Probably gives more dirty, disgusting and accurate impression of the 18th century period drama that any officer. 8 / 10 |
** SPOILERS ** HERE Abstract: Macleane (Miller), witnessed a robbery by Plunkett (Carlyle), what's wrong. Plunkett partner get shot (and killed), but not until after it swallowed a large ruby. Macleane Plunkett and then gather at the cemetery where both are made with the ruby. Unfortunately not as grave robbers are caught and sent to prison, but not until Plunkett swallowed the ruby. The ruby is the key to freedom, and once it is free, form a partnership in the robbery. Macleane is posing as a gentleman and know that it's worth stealing, and then simply stolen (and rob them in style). But Macleane falls in love with the niece or daughter (?) For his first victim, Mrs Rebecca Gibson (Tyler). And a gentleman Opportunity (Stott) is a catch, and their methods are not very pleasant ... Comment: A good taste of the comedy and action adventure. Carlyle and Miller are a good team with great friction and friendship. And then there is the relationship between Macleane and Rebecca Gibson. The scene with the ball is very good, especially the (anachronistic) the use of music. Apart from these interesting characters Cumming playing the best of all, Lord Rochester. Both the nature and stellar performance, and are among the best in the film. In total, the Plunkett & Macleane movie works very well, a good balance between story and special effects, action and comedy. Very entertaining. 8 / 10 |
I've been waiting since last October to see this movie! (which was supposed to leave octubre'98) and now at last I've seen I do not disappoint. bloody marvelous! OK, it was a little slow at first, but once that is very exciting nail-biting tense Robert Carlyle is so different from any of Gaz in 'The Full Monty' and Begbie in 'Trainspotting') that it is difficult to recognize it! And Johnny Lee Miller, no longer with his Sick Boy from 'Trainspotting' blond hair, plays his fellow road handsome man with the right humor and sensitivity that is easy to see why Liv Tylers Rebecca falls for him. A great movie. As Hades in Disney's' Hercules' would say: "two thumbs way up!" |
Well, I'm not about to add to the diatribe that has "preached" about this movie. All I can add is that at no time even to pretend to be a 'historic' image. Unlike 'Braveheart', 'Titanic' or 'The Patriot' to all those who are very credible and serious historical changes, for theatrical effects (the worst possible excuses). Everyone has a sense of humor bypass? All I can add is a paraphrase of the good Captain Macleane - seemed fantastic and we have a bloody good laugh. " - One last point. What amazes me is that there are comments on the "modern music" in a historic setting. I wonder if the same people made the same ruling on the Moulin Rouge. I suggest not. |
