| The story of Willie Stark, who starts running an Assemblyman in the south against the local political machine, which eventually rises to the governor of your state machine and supported by all interests, Stark originally set to fight in the meantime ruining the lives of his family and associates. Crawford is very powerful in his role as Stark, delivering a very convincing performance. McCambridge is also excellent as the tacit policy Stark assistant (and lover), Ireland effectively as the reporter, who is considered history. Very good leadership of Ross, who turns nice Stark, a negligible fink the final film. Sharp also editing Clark. Nice to see morality play. Rating 10. |
| Robert Rossen (The Hustler) had better luck with the story of Louisiana governor Huey Long as he managed to capture every award he was nominated for Best Director Oscars safe. The picture did win the Best Film Award for my year of birth, and the acting awards went to Broderick Crawford (Governor Stark / Long), and Mercedes McCambridge. The corruption of power, sleaziness of the political process, the willingness of people to be used are all explored in this moving film. Again, as in Hustler, Ross uses the black and white medium to its full effectiveness when a tense study of movement and increased Stark / Long and his fall. "Jack, there's something in the world. | Every dog has his day. Broderick Crawford (sometimes remembered for the television series "Highway Patrol") hit the zenith of his career with an Oscar winning performance. Willie Stark as it reeks of abuse of power that we have seen in the years since. Crawford will never again become a single paper that was actually written by him. (On the Highway Patrol all the persecutions were shot on private land - Crawford's driver license was revoked for numerous violations of DUI). Can not be left out Mercedes McCambridge. She is the perfect second lead. Their performance is full of depth. Mercedes is the model for women today. Strong and full of compassion. She and Crawford provide entertainment without feeling a part of CGI. If you have not seen this film, rent, purchase or go to a retrospective. His DVD movie All the King's Men is life is incomplete without a view. |
| I loved this DVD film All the King's Men and can not be compared to a more modern film. This was in 1949! Movies are going to improve with time, as almost anything. But time has no impact on the dialogue. This DivX film All the King's Men was very well written and is further evidence of the sophistication that today flics. No special effects up to trust. Crawford was magnificent in this movement ... any other opinion is wrong. This is a perfect cast. I believe the other claims have been exaggerated ... were good but not Oscar worthy. Crawford was the main man here. I'm surprised this was made in el'49 and love to visit is the life before I was born. People do not change and the heart remains the same, either 2005 or 1949. |
