| Finally, this movie: Hellmaster is a patch that they deserve. Way cooler than the 92 cutoff. Douglas Schulze has shown he can do very well the horror films with a budget without sacrificing production value. Mike Goi of cinematography and color palette are reminicient Dario's masterpiece "Susperia". Saxon is dead as the mad professor (we all had a share of this kind in our lives!) David Emgee adds a "Kolchek-Night Stalker" fresh from his role as the investigative reporter. But who can forget Ron Asheton of Iggy Pop and the Stooges "dressed like a psychotic nun! If you dig creepy, stylish horror films, this is for you! |
| U is quite surprised that this was as good as it was, because my expectations were fairly low for this, despite the fact that John Saxon, David Emge (Dawn of the Dead) were in the cast. This is a very rare and strange horror film, something about some experiments by a mad scientist (Saxon) years ago that caused the mysterious deaths of several students that were then covered by a fire. Well, the doctor is crazy again, so he and some cohorts zombies are out to take over this campus, and then the world (?) With an army of homeless people. This is a very different feel to it, and thought it was well done and frankly disturbing, especially the old converted school bus that houses the trip zombie accumulate. Some of the effects of lighting are not exactly stellar, but much to hide that, but no big deal. Emge is the man who was a TV broadcaster to discover the dark secrets of this crazy doctor who has discovered the zombie things can not be killed with a dilute solution of the doctor zombie elixir, which dispenses with a crossbow. In general, although this was surprisingly good and original, always a great advantage. 8 out of 10. |
