| I found this Dogville film to be very absorbent and has occupied my thoughts for several days. My impression of the script is a metaphor representing the gift of Jesus Christ (the appropriately named Grace), as a response to Tom the "prayer" of a lesson to the city to help people learn to receive. Unfortunately none of the citizens of Dogville can overcome their low instincts enough to do nothing but destroy and imprison their own faith. I wonder if the device in the repeated rape of Grace is designed to make the public feel good emotional outrage at the perversion of religion. The end has a better job in giving me a sobering vision of the 50 days that any sentence could never televangelists. I think I'm going to see this Dogville movie again and pay more attention. |
| Tough. Once again, Lars von Trier torture to the public (as it did earlier in Dancer in the Dark) upraising the darker side of human beings. From the outset we know that things can only get worse, but I doubt that one can imagine, or what is to come, nor the powerful conclusion. Nicole Kidman is the perfect interpretation - intense, passionate and poignant, much more. She is fantastic and so is the small cast Dogville locked inside the case (a wonderful creation - I wonder how something so simple can have a strong effect). Again, the entire cast is fantastic and is going for an additional appropriation of Lars von Trier. Your ability to push the actors and the limit of extracting them from painful emotions creates a heavy atmosphere, full of tension and at the same time so familiar. Not that Dogville is the essence of our communities, but it exposes some aspects of our lives that we prefer to hide under the carpet. |
| Once again, Lars Von Trier, has presented us with a disturbing thought and honest account of the human condition. In my opinion, the main message regarding the incredible amount of energy that humans cognitive spent in trying to prove to ourselves that we are not subject to "hard wire" behaviors that make us human. Some do their best to avoid this in themselves and in others, and justify the behaviors they believe are immoral and contrary to the ethics based on the life events of causality. Sometimes, it is noteworthy that is not acceptable, and to hold others responsible for the same standards to which it is fighting. This involves making a personal decision about what is going to be tolerated, an action that requires courage and honesty. Although they differ as to what part of our "real self" are ready to show, and some require extreme provocation before being "re-write" (Grace, for example), in the end we will behave in a free focused and, ultimately, on their own. Can not seem to accept that we, in the same manner as all other species, will ensure that we always have our needs met. Morality can be simply a word that is acceptable to attempt to make others conform in a way that meets our needs. Who can say? Every time I watch one of his movies, I think he will never be able to make a better DVD movie Dogville next time. And he is always wrong. |
| This Dogville Drama film is not the best I've ever seen, and probably not as good as "Breaking the Waves." But I left the theater stunned, shocked, sad, confused and a little angry with the director, for being so cruel (and in truth?) In portraying human behavior with vulnerable people to use objects not to bind to see the characters in their eyes and facial expressions, because there is nothing to draw my attention. However, this DVD movie Dogville deserves to be seen, because that's what an artist is supposed to do, to share some thoughts and opinions, without giving answers, but raise questions and emotions: and probably has more right than others be sold with DivX film Dogville studios anything, but what people like to see it. |
