| Jane Austen's novel, possibly his best, comes to the screen in another version, made in America Gwyneth Paltrow in the lead alongside Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightley. This is an adaptation that remains faithful to the original premise, and to a certain kind of cinema. Sophie Thompson is performing well and playing like the talk of Miss Bates, Paltrow and maintained a convincing English accent throughout. A curious thing is that in the scene where Emma and Knightley have danced together to the same music as the dance in the 1990s, the BBC Pride and Prejudice between Elizabeth and Darcy. This seems to jar somewhat, as if they could not find another piece of music! Perhaps the only two adaptations overlap. The 'Emma' compares well with others, but still there is not much between it and the TV in a long time, as much as Emma with Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong as Knightley. |
| What a delightful film: Emma ... Accompanied by Oscar-winning composer Rachel Portman lush, emotional and dreamy music, this Emma film remains a delight worth seeing more than once a year. Incredible casting ... Gwyneth Paltrow was perfect for the role of Emma. Toni Collette was great as Harriett Smith. The character who stole the movie: Emma was MISS BATES! It was fascinating to see, one is on the edge of the 'seat just hanging on every word and laugh with her hysterical. One of the most endearing characters I have come across in ages. One of the opening scenes, when Mr. Woodhouse, thanks for sending that beautiful neighborhood behind the pork ... pork, MOTHER! " Lucas yells at her and hearing her mother clearly, Ms. Bates (played by Emma Thompson's mother, Phyllida Law) that looks abandoned and lost. The comedian how to avoid grating Emma Miss Bates is built to a truly gut-wrenching scene of the picnic when Emma insults Miss Bates that leads to cruel dig your heart. Then, seeing the poor Miss Bates and stuttering on the verge of tears and as a crushed can not but feel the heart of one of his starts in his name. It's a classic scene, a being rewound and played over and over ... The end is just one of "Sense and Sensibility" and offers one of the greatest lessons of life about how one should marry his best friend ... I hope this DVD movie Emma all the pleasures that everything that has myself. I loved it! |
| Lavish production values and solid live performances this adaptation of Jane Austen satire on marriage classic game between classes and within provinces in 18th Century England. Paltrow and Northam are a mixture salutory as friends who must pass through jealousy and lies to discover that love itself. Good humor is a virtue that maintenance is much easier to explain the accessibility of the elderly source material (which has been toned down a bit harsh in their skepticism). I liked the look of the Emma Comedy movie were created and how the shooting, and I thought I did not rely too much on inheritance of head shots like most films of the 80s and 90s do. Very good results. |
| Jane Austen definitely approve of this! Gwyneth Paltrow does an amazing job capturing the attitude of Emma. It's funny without being too silly, but elegant. She puts in a very convincing British accent (which is not British myself, maybe I am not the best judge, but she fooled me ... it was also excellent in "sliding door" ... I sometimes forget that it is in America ~!). Åre also brilliant Jeremy Northam and Sophie Thompson and Phyllida Law (Emma Thompson's sister and mother) as the Bates women. Almost steal the show ... and Mrs. Law are not online! Highly recommended. |
