| One of the principles of Pasolini, Mamma Roma is a forgotten jewel of Italian cinema. Some pleasant surprises in this underrated film, like the incredible performance of breast 'Roma'-Anna Magnani, and the music, mostly classic! I can relate this DVD film Mamma Roma with some work by Vittorio de Sica, but is not as neo-realistic, but sometimes you feel like it is. Symbolism, a very dear to the follow Pasolini is here also, and we may even see this DVD movie Mamma Roma as a Greek tragedy, leaving the viewer to explore many options. In general, earned a 8.5/10. |
| I just wanted to point out that in the last scene, Ettore Pasolini shows in jail (for theft), tied to a table, and is similar to painting by Andrea Mantegna, "The Dead Christ." This may say a lot about what I thought about Pasolini the crucifixion of Christ and Mamma Roma could see how the prostitute and her son Ettore (perhaps not as mother and son, but as Christ and Mary Magdalene?). The final scene is also a reminder of how the opening scene, the marriage of Carmen (the pimp) and his girlfriend looks so much like DaVinci's painting, "The Last Supper" ... and so the Mamma Roma Drama film opens with a visual reference to the pimp Christ before his death, and ends with Christ the thief after he dies. So many things about this Mamma Roma film has elements of the story of Christ, the only result of his head. Ettore relationship with Bruna loose women, family dealing with their money, their supporters and thieves laziness, their lack of a trade, the theft of his - it's as if he is the opposite of Christ. And yet, he has been blessed Ettore: is rooted in nature (he grew up on a farm, which recognizes the birds by their songs, acting spontaneously in their natural feelings of anger or lust) and is within a story basically about the power of morality and redemption. Mamma Roma is a woman, but a flawed woman who is trying to do the right thing, to repair its forms. Ettore and not so much an anti-Christ as he is a prototype of Christ - a pre-Christian figure.
